The National Economic, Social and Environmental Council convened an extraordinary session of its General Assembly on Tuesday, 2 December 2025. The morning session, held at the headquarters of the National Housing Bank in Bab Ezzouar, addressed the adoption of the regulatory note governing the election of committee members and chairs, as well as members of the Bureau, in addition to the approval of the Council’s Procedure draft Rules to align them with the new legal texts.

The afternoon session, held at the Mercure Hotel in Bab Ezzouar, Algiers, witnessed the constitution of the Council’s bodies through the election of members and chairs of the five standing committees, and the members of the Council’s Bureau. This step activates the committees and the Bureau to ensure the effective commencement of their mandates. It also marks a pivotal phase in the resumption of institutional work, allowing the NESEC to launch its consultative functions within a participatory and collective approach.

This session provided an opportunity to reaffirm members’ commitment to a culture of responsible dialogue, collaborative work and coordinated efforts, with a view to formulating recommendations and proposals that support the path toward comprehensive and sustainable development.

Les résultats des opérations électorales ont abouti à l'élection des membres et  présidents des commissions suivantes :

  • • Committee on Economic Affairs and Finance;
  • • Committee on Social Affairs;
  • • Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development;
  • • Committee on Local Development and Territory Planning;
  • • Committee on Algerians Residing Abroad.

Five (5) members representing the four (4) categories were also elected to the Council’s Bureau from among the members of the five elected committees. These five (5) members join the committee chairs, bringing the number of elected members of the Council’s Bureau to ten (10).

In his closing address, the President of the Council, Professor Mohamed BOUKHARI, congratulated the elected committee members, the committee chairs and the members of the Council’s Bureau, wishing them every success in their missions. He expressed his satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the Extraordinary General Assembly’s proceedings and commended the sense of responsibility demonstrated by the members during the session. This reflects institutional maturity and a collective commitment to the principles of participatory governance, aimed at strengthening the Council’s role as a national forum for dialogue and consultation among operators in the economic, social and environmental spheres, and at advancing the fulfilment of its constitutional mandate through members’ contributions to opinion-forming, analysis, proposals, evaluation and forward-looking analysis on matters of comprehensive and sustainable national development.
