On 26 November 2025, Professor Mohamed Boukhari, President of the National Economic, Social and Environmental Council, attended the opening ceremony of the African Ministerial Conference on Local Production of Medicines and Other Health Technologies at the Abdelatif Rahal International Conference Centre in Algiers.

This major continental event, devoted to the development of the pharmaceutical industry in Africa, took place from the 27th to the 29th of November 2025 and brought together representatives from numerous African countries alongside international partners. Participants examined ways to strengthen regional cooperation, accelerate local production of medicines, and reinforce the continent’s health capacities.

The conference was jointly organised by the Ministry of Pharmaceutical Industry and the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), and held under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, Mr Abdelmadjid Tebboune. Its objective was to bolster the health sovereignty of the African continent.

The conference culminated in the adoption of the “Algiers Declaration,” a strategic document containing a series of recommendations dedicated to promote African integration in the pharmaceutical sector and to support states’ efforts to achieve health sovereignty.
