Professor Mohamed Boukhari, President of the National Economic, Social and Environmental Council, took part on Tuesday, May 20th, 2025, at the National Army Club in the proceedings of the international forum titled “Drought and Its Impact on Irregular Migration,” organized by the National Gendarmerie Command as part of the “5+5 Defence” initiative.

This high-level forum brought together representatives from national institutions, international organizations and experts in climate, security and migration. It highlighted the growing connections between water stress, environmental degradation and irregular migration dynamics, particularly across vulnerable zones in the Mediterranean rim and the Sahel.

Professor Boukhari’s participation underscores the NESEC’s commitment to an intersectoral approach to contemporary challenges, where environmental concerns intersect with human security, social cohesion and regional governance.

On the event’s sidelines, the NESEC President also attended the certification ceremony for participants, commending the quality of the discussions and the strategic importance of this initiative for prevention, resilience and multilateral cooperation in the face of climate change.
