Under the presidency of the Prime Minister, Mr. Sifi GHRIEB, and by delegation from the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid TEBBOUNE, the National Economic, Social and Environmental Council held, on Monday 20 October 2025, at the Palais des Nations – Club des Pins in Algiers, its first General Assembly dedicated to the official installation of the newly appointed members for the 2025–2029 term.
Several members of the Government attended the installation ceremony alongside the Prime Minister. The event also welcomed, as Guest of Honour, Mr. Moussa Ayoub Al-Chetioui, President of the Economic and Social Council of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and Vice President of the Union of Arab Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions.
The Assembly’s proceedings were marked by addresses from the Prime Minister, Mr. Sifi GHRIEB, and the President of the NESEC, Mr. Mohamed BOUKHARI, both of whom underscored the Council’s strategic role in informing, supporting, and evaluating public policies aimed at promoting balanced and sustainable development across economic, social, and environmental spheres.
This solemn ceremony forms part of the periodic renewal of the NESEC’s membership and reaffirms the principle of rotation in representation, a guarantee of greater vitality and improved effectiveness in the Council’s functioning. It will enable the Council to fully discharge its consultative duties in service of the country’s economic, social and environmental development, acting as a privileged forum for dialogue, consultation, proposals, analysis and foresight.
On the occasion of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the NESEC also organised, on the sidelines of this inaugural General Assembly, a panel entitled: "Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Collective Action for Improved Prevention and Care."
The panel brought together experts, medical specialists and representatives from the National Commission for Cancer Prevention and Control, the National Agency for Health Safety, and the National Observatory for Civil Society to share experiences and strengthen intersectoral coordination in public health.
