On May 31st, 2025, Professor Mohamed BOUKHARI, President of the National Economic, Social and Environmental Council (NESEC), participated in the official celebration of World Children’s Day, which is observed annually on the 1st of June. The nationwide event took place at the Algerian National Theatre "Mohieddine BACHTARZI" and was held under the auspices of Mrs. Soraya MOULOUDGI, the Minister of National Solidarity, Family and Women's Affairs.
The ceremony also featured the presence of Mrs. Meriem CHERFI, President of the National Agency for the Protection and Promotion of Children, as well as numerous institutional and civil society representatives committed to advocating for children’s rights. In addition to representatives from civil society, child development experts, heads of specialized institutions and prominent figures from the educational and social sectors also participated in this celebration.
NESEC’s active participation underscores the Council’s steadfast commitment to issues related to childhood and children’s rights, in line with its mission in advising on economic, social and environmental fields. It also highlights the Council’s dedication to supporting national efforts aimed at providing a secure, nurturing environment that fosters the optimal development of Algerian children.
This initiative is part of a broader strategic vision that emphasizes investing in the education and training of future generations— regarded as the fundamental pillar of national development. The ultimate goal is to equip these young citizens with the skills and values needed to become responsible community members and active contributors to sustainable, inclusive and equitable national development.
The celebration of World Children’s Day offered a unique opportunity to reaffirm Algeria's commitment to international children’s rights conventions and to evaluate progress in implementing public policies that safeguard and promote the welfare of children. Furthermore, it served as a rallying call to raise public awareness about contemporary challenges affecting children and to mobilize all social stakeholders around this high-priority cause.
