At the invitation of the Minister of the Environment and Quality of Life, Ms. Nadjiba DJILALI, the President of the National Economic, Social and Environmental Council (NESEC) participated on Wednesday, May 28th, 2025, in the official launch ceremony of the project titled "Integrated Forest and Biodiversity Management for Sustainable Development".

This project forms part of national efforts to strengthen the preservation of biodiversity and forest ecosystems, as well as to improve the sustainable management of natural resources in sensitive mountainous areas. The project specifically targets the El Bibane mountain range, spanning the wilayas of Bordj Bou Arreiridj and Béjaïa, a region known for its ecological richness and unique environmental challenges.

The primary objective of this ambitious program is to increase the productivity of mountainous lands while preserving their ecological balance, and to support rural communities in developing sustainable and efficient natural resource management. This integrated approach also aims to combat soil degradation, strengthen ecosystem resilience to climate change and create sustainable economic opportunities for local populations.

The launch ceremony brought together several institutional and international partners, demonstrating the collaborative nature of this initiative. Participants included representatives from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), a key technical partner in the forestry sector and the National Observatory for the Environment and Sustainable Development (ONEDD), a key institution in monitoring national environmental policies.

This project is fully aligned with Algeria's national sustainable development strategy and international commitments to preserving biodiversity and combating climate change.
