At the invitation of Mr. Ibrahim BOUGHALI, President of the National People’s Assembly, Professor Mohamed BOUKHARI, President of the National Economic, Social and Environmental Council (NESEC), attended a study day on Tuesday, 14 October 2025, organized by the Assembly in partnership with the High Islamic Council under the theme “Islamic Finance in Algeria: Perspectives and Challenges.”
The event brought together prominent national figures, university professors and experts from the financial and banking sectors. Participants exchanged views on the fundamentals, principles and mechanisms of Islamic finance and discussed the nature of its intermediation and the services it provides.
Emphasis was placed on the structuring role of Islamic finance in promoting national economic development and its contribution to building a diversified and integrated financial model capable of responding to economic shifts and the aspirations of economic and social operators.
The study day forms part of strengthened consultation and coordination between the National People’s Assembly and the High Islamic Council aimed at promoting the development of the Islamic finance sector in Algeria and deepening reflection on the means to embed its principles and practices within the existing legal, regulatory and Sharʿi (Islamic law) framework in Algeria.
